If you have ever considered becomming a school Governor, here is an opportunity. You can put in as much or as little time as you want.
Ray Little the Chairman of the Governors, is looking for candidates with good business experience, to help guide the direction of the school.
This is what he has to say about the role.
If you are interested please contact Ray on the numbers below.
‘Governors set the aims, vision, policies and strategic direction of the school. School governing bodies are responsible for working with the school to ensure that it delivers a good quality education. Together with the headteacher, who is responsible for day-to-day management the Governing Body provides strategic management, and it acts as a “critical friend”, supporting the work of the headteacher and other staff. The school has a delegated budget to cover salaries, running costs, maintenance and equipment; the Governing Body is responsible for managing this budget.
The full Governing Body (FGB) meets 6 times a year, we have two Committees Finance & Human Resources and the Operations Committee which deals with estate & facility management and health & safety, they meet 4/5 times a year. Meetings are generally on a Monday evening 7 to 9 pm.
We have what are called Link Governors, these are roles identified to a specific area i.e. safeguarding, heath & safety, teaching & learning, 6th form, finance etc. The Governors meet with staff to look at any development, problems, updates etc. and report to the FGB.
We operate a Governor of the Month programme a Governor will visit the school, can be one day, two half days, or smaller time slots to see the school working. Some Governors will look at key areas they are interested in’.
I hope the above helps, you asked what are we looking for. Someone with Business and Commercial experience would be great or equally someone with legal , HR or finance experience would be most welcome.
Happy to meet with anyone interested for a chat.
Thanks for your help.
